Album Review – The Seldom Seen Kid

The Seldom Seen Kid – Elbow                           51IvVmQ00kL._SX355_

Elbow was formed in 1990 and has now released six albums.     The The Seldom Seen Kid was released in 2008. This was the British band’s fourth album and was the first album that was entirely self produced. There aren’t a lot of bands that have been playing together for over twenty years, so they know their stuff and their tight sound shows their cohesiveness in playing together for such an enduring time.

Their sound is well produced and their music is well crafted with great and uniquely identifiable vocals along with superb percussion. As well guitar work, orchestral backing and harmonies come out in the song “One Day Like This” with the song building to a rhythmic type of chant.

In Australia chances are you’re not familiar with Elbow – though you maybe surprised!

The more rocky “Grounds for Divorce” was featured on the Coen Brothers film “Burn After Reading” which starred Brad Pitt, George Clooney & Frances McDormand. BBC used “One Day Like This” with their coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Many other songs have also been used as tracks on other movies.

“The Seldom Seen Kid” is a great album with a great indie rock feel that is full of quality work. The Album also won the 2008 Mercury Music award.

Relax and enjoy the changing range and quality feel of the album – one definitely for the collection.
