Canada Part 3

All Aboard The Rocky Mountaineer

This morning we depart the Marmot Hotel at 6am to be taken all of 2km to the Jasper Railway Station to board the world renowned train – The Rocky Mountaineer. There is an air of excitement amongst all travellers gathered as they wait in anticipation to be the first to see the train rounding the last bend before stopping at the platform.

I’m also getting a little caught up in the excitement! Though Deb reckons I never get excited ? So let’s say I’m very keen at this point.

Camera’s are out and ready! And here she comes. This is cool – even the train driver is excited! Waving at the gathering crowd of travellers as he proudly brings his world famous locomotive to a slowing halt.

We are ushered to our carriage feeling like VIPs and are greeted at the steps by Darcy (from Mackay Nth QLD) and Ephraim who will be our stewards for the journey to Vancouver. We board and find our seats and they’re great – leather with plenty of leg room and big open windows that flow into the roof line. It doesn’t take long before we are on our way. Coffee and breakfast are served and the professional hospitality from Darcy and Ephraim is alive and well.

The two guys and Amy our Chef can’t do enough to make us all feel welcome and set the mood for a great experience – we won’t be disappointed.

Great service, great food, great fun and great commentary are happening as we make our way along the Canadian Pacific Railway. Darcy and Ephraim are close to being a low key comedy duo. Everyone on board is in a great place! How about a drink – yep plenty to go around and who cares what time it is? Yes lunch looks suburb! I think you get the picture?

The Rocky Mountaineer moves through the cuttings and the changing scenery as we move out of the Rockies.

The amount of freight that moves across Canada by rail is incredible. One train after another carrying thousands of tonnes from the West to the East. A train can be longer than two kilometres.

We stay at the Plaza Hotel which had great character. Kamloops was a good nights rest and we are keen to get moving again.

We have another great day on the Rocky Mountaineer and as the time slips by we are now moving through the outskirts of Vancouver to arrive at our final destination.

We disembark and once again the logistics are spot on with coaches waiting to take us to our accomodation where we will spend the next days exploring the beautiful city and surrounds of Vancouver in the coastal province of British Columbia before moving onto Whistler for our final days in Canada – RD
