I’ve always enjoyed a thriller that delves into the ancient and mysterious history of churches, cults and brotherhoods; mixed with a conspiracy theory that is fictional yet tangled in factual locations in the most guarded and secretive organisations in the world.
Most of us would be familiar with the movies Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code staring Tom Hanks as the Harvard University Symbologist – Professor Robert Langdon. The usual theory is to read the book before seeing the movie – the movie is never as good as the book. Or so they say.
Having a pre-conceived image of Robert Langdon through Tom Hanks actually gave me a great feel for the book. Angels and Demons is based on an ancient brotherhood, believed to have been wiped out by the Catholic Church centuries ago. The brotherhood lasted for hundreds of years and was based on the evidence of science rather than the religious view of creation. It originally included the likes of Galileo, Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Bernini and Botticelli .
The Illuminati brotherhood is actually factual and over its long history, is thought to have had wide reaching influences including the Masons, Rhodes Scholarships and other educational institutions including the arts and potentially the most powerful positions in the world.

Angels and Demons is one hell of a read. The action starts from the first page and keeps you going back for more. It took me to another world of mystery and thrilling adventure. Dan Brown is one great author.
