Trigger Points

No, I don’t mean the medical or massage therapy type.

The type I’d describe as “An occurrence that triggers a change decision”.

Recently, I received an email that triggered a decision that I’d been contemplating but didn’t have an actual date or pressing need to implement the action.

Neither the email or my decision were directly related. But for whatever reason the email did determine the timing of my next move. Now was the time!

Thinking about it, at varying stages in my life, I’ve experienced trigger points that:

1. I realised what I was doing wasn’t working and something had to change.

2. It was time to implement the next phase of a greater plan.

3. Set me on a different path.

Maybe you’ve experienced a trigger point that instigated:

1. A change of job.

2. The health scare that triggered you to lose weight and improve your fitness.

3. Maybe you realised that you needed to lift your game to progress and grow.

Some of my trigger points, have no doubt, over my life created decisions that brought with them a heap of pressure and challenges.

My latest trigger point started the next phase in our plans for our future work/lifestyle balance.

Making a life changing decision or having the commitment to a long term plan for positive change can be very difficult, you need to be disciplined and believe in the outcome.

Where I am today at this stage of my live, if similar past scenario’s occurred, I may not necessarily make the same decisions – the level of risk today could be too high. It certainly can be about balancing risk and reward and where you’re currently at.

Though, for me, my trigger points when they arose and the decisions that followed, as hard as some were, have turned out to be the best decisions I’ve made.

I often wonder if my life would still be the same if I hadn’t chosen change – I very much doubt it !!!
