It’s a Matter of Time

After another busy week, I’m sitting in an airport waiting for my flight to take me home. It leaves at a certain time. I’ll be glad to get home at a certain time. It’s a Friday and I have a heap of things I’d like to get done over the weekend. Unfortunately with limited time.

Everything we do has an element of time associated with it.

So many people are in a rush to get somewhere. In my experience rushing things doesn’t give you more time. It also tends to lead to frustration, more mistakes and accidents. I guess you could say it can be a waste of time.

None of us know how much time we actually have so it goes without saying how you spend your time should be a priority. It’s great to be productive, its great fun being creative, its great to take the time to care and love, read, learn, discover, explore.

There are times when you need to be strategic, set a time frame which might require personal sacrifices but it needs to be realistic. It’s foolhardy to push your health or your family beyond reason. How many people have reached an extraordinary level of financial success only to say they’d give it all away to have their health back or they missed their children growing up and that list of regrets goes on and on. Nothing for nothing !

The “What if” question.

A life long friend of mine who’s a very talented drummer developed his music skills from childhood through to his current middle age. We talked recently and looking back, Dave’s comment was he pursued money instead of pursuing his passion for music, Sort of along the lines “Would I do it the same if I had my time again”. I reckon there’s a bit of that question in all of us, once you reach a certain time in your life.

Apologies in advance but I gotta throw in a cryptic joke at this point.

”So many Drummers – so little time !” I love that. Sorry Dave.

Keeping time.

I read an interesting article recently on achieving financial success. What stood out was that most *Millionaires didn’t reach this milestone until they were at least 50 years of age. It took time. So much for all the perceived ease of overnight success that we have thrown at us through Facebook or Instagram. Very rarely is that reality – surprise, surprise!

So it seems we should invest our time wisely. If I can suggest, be present, stay focused on your goals but be patient – be in it for the long haul. You may be pleasantly surprised where you might just end up, in what felt like a relatively short period of time.

It’s funny how time flies!

As always, thanks for reading – RD
