The Mongol Rally

Meat & Three Veg

Hi All,

Have you ever had that thought where you would love to do something completely out of left field? You know – just break the mould for a while. Step off the treadmill and do something that pushes you out of your comfort zone. Something that’s a bit out there? And if you do take the plunge the challenges of your decision have only just started. The unknown awaits to test your nerve, commitment and abilities.

Meat & Three Veg are a team of four young Aussies about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime. I would like to thank Zoe for accepting our invitation to be a part of manstheory.com and give us the good oil on the Mongol Rally that awaits Meat & Three Veg.

Ps – Zoe did explain that some of the terminology is straight from the Mongol Rally rule book so if you’re offended close your eyes!

Over to Zoe

Every once in a while the opportunity to do something stupid comes along. Four mates, one terrible excuse of a car and a shared vision have made that opportunity a reality. The dream to create a more sustainable planet whilst joining the fight to make the world less boring is where Team Meat & Three Veg was born.

What on earth is this all about? The Mongol Rally of course, combining under-prepared travellers, ill-equipped vehicles with no set route, back up or support, it is said to be the greatest motoring adventure on the planet. Unprepared and ambitious, Team Meat & Three Veg are set to kick off their 16,000km+ journey in England where tarmac turns to dust and smiles turn to tears as they fumble their way to Ulan-Ude, Russia.

Their ‘unplanned’ route will go something like this. Launch Party, GoodWood Circuit, where some 300 teams will meet to show off the abilities of their ridiculously incompetent vehicles. With any luck Team Meat & Three Veg will make it beyond the launch circuit and embark on this adventure meandering their way through Europe, Turkey, Armenia, Iran, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Mongolia & back to Russia where they envision themselves pushing their rusty old steed across the finish line.

Before they ascend on the ‘Everest of Adventures’, they must abide to three very simple rules.

Rule 1: Small & Shit.
As stated on the Adventurists website “You must bring the shittest rolling turd of a car you can”. Meet ‘Skippy’ the early 2000s model 1.2L Renault Kangoo who will become home to Team Meat & Three Veg as they take her to places she was never meant to go.

Rule 2: On Your Own.
It’s not really an adventure unless you’re broken down, beyond lost and you can’t speak the local language, right?

Rule 3. Save The World.
You were probably wondering how driving a shit heap with wheels 1/3 of the way across the planet will contribute to environmental sustainability? With the help of social media many attempts of shameless Spruiks will be publicly documented by Team Meat & Three Veg to raise money and awareness for Cool Earth, a charity that works alongside indigenous villages to halt rainforest destruction and SolarAid, an international charity that combats poverty and climate change.

So what’s their plan when it all turns to custard? Plan A -burn the car and sail the Caspian. Plan B – call the mechanic. Fortunately for Team Meat & Three Veg he’s only a stone’s throw away.

Meet Sam, the teams very own mechanic who will be paid in beer and (mostly positive) words of encouragement. Sam is an Emergency Services Mechanic from Canberra and has agreed to be the Meat to their Veg. No doubt the most valuable team member; the other three team mates have no choice but to put up with his ghastly taste in country music. Or pinch as many in-flight ear plugs as they can get their hands on.

The learning method and the virtual classroom ambience is simple viagra generic usa to understand and all assistance is provided to allow students get accustomed with the concepts of learning tools and education.

The next team member is Ashton, the hippy Solar Engineer from Melbourne.

What does one do when living in Melbourne, become a vegetarian of course! This Greenie is the Brains of the team and his bilingual skills will be put to test as the Team Negotiator when we get busted driving down the wrong side of the AutoBarn. Inspired by adventure and bad decisions Ashton has quit his job, packed all of his belongings into one grubby backpack and has booked a one way ticket to London.

Next veggie to be picked is Bronte.

She is a Surgical Veterinary Nurse from Canberra with more guts than sense! She is an animal loving, tree hugging adrenaline junkie who fills her spare time riding dirt bikes, wake-boarding, snowboarding and frees-styling in the kitchen creating masterpieces and the occasional health hazard! Bronte is full of beans, works hard and plays even harder!

The last veggie in this patch is Zoe (the Rally Instigator), also a Surgical Veterinary Nurse from Canberra.  Some would say she is as mad as a cut snake, organising a wedding, raising funds for charity, studying and planning an overseas rally.

Zoe is inspired (or easily influenced) by her team mates passion for extreme sports and/or adventures and tries to replicate their talents, which usually results in bruises and embarrassing videos! Nevertheless this lemon won’t give up without a fight and is ready to take on whatever the Mongol Rally throws their way!

Courageous or just plain stupid, we’ll let you decide. Grab life by the balls and join them in their fight to make the world sustainably less boring.- Zoe.
