Album review David Gilmour – “Rattle That Lock” RD

Artist: David Gilmour

Album: “Rattle that Lock”

imagesOk –  I’m becoming quite particular in how I spend my hard earned cash on music albums these days.                                                    So when I came across “Rattle that Lock” by Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyd fame it ignited my interest.I have always been a fan of Pink Floyd and as guitarists go, Dave Gilmour has always had a unique sound and Pink Floyd were one of the best.

In all honesty it took me a while to get my head around this album. It didn’t come to me in the first couple of listens. Maybe I had some sort of pre-conceived notion that it was going to be a pseudo Pink Floyd type of thing, so was I being fair to the man?  Probably not, so I’ve hung in there !

There is no mistaking who you are listening to, that fluent yet harrowing guitar sound, the vocals, the melodies. It’s not Pink Floyd but you know there is an influence that is unmistakable and there is no questioning Dave Gilmour is one of the greats in his era. The quality is there without question.

For me personally, it’s an album that has grown on me. I would say it’s a good album but not a great album. It is easy to listen to and in varying tracks does grab you and take you within, if that makes sense? There’s a few break away tracks that are different and bordering on a jazz / blues feel. Not expected but they don’t detract.

I would say if you appreciate the musician and his part in guitar and band history, it’s money well spent – just don’t expect a blockbuster.
